Snuggle down in a warm woolen triangle of botanical lace. Juneberry can be worked in DK-weight Arbor to yield a wingspan of 44½″ or in worsted weight Shelter for a 61″ shawl. The knitting begins with a provisional cast-on of a few stitches at the center top; increases at the center spine and edges form the triangle shape. In the traditional Shetland style, a wide knitted-on edging unites with the live stitches at the perimeter for an elastic and seamless finish. Juneberry is worked from charted instructions, some of which require lace maneuvers on both sides of the work. If you prefer not to work bobbles, simply replace them with a single stockinette stitch.
Construction
Shawl is worked flat beginning at top center with a provisional cast on over a small number of stitches. The shawl is shaped outward towards the edges at a rate of 4 increased stitches every other row. The triangle is finished with a wide knitted-on edging that is attached to the perimeter of the central triangle as it is worked, eliminating the need for a traditional (and inelastic) bind off.
