Jubilance Kerchief
The Jubilance Kerchief is a square kerchief knit in the round from the center outwards, beginning with a pinhole cast on. The sections are simple, with soothing sections of stockinette and lace. This design celebrates Juneteenth, a holiday that marks the emancipation of the last remaining enslaved African Americans in 1865.
For this design, I was inspired by quilts, which were often made by enslaved persons to commemorate significant life events, and, as some historians note, were even used as codes to communicate information to enslaved persons about how to escape to freedom via the Underground Railroad.
I hope that you enjoy knitting the Jubilance Kerchief as much as I did while designing it! The pattern includes various styling ideas for how to wear the kerchief, which shows the versatility of this accessory.
Fun facts: The Jubilance Kerchief is fully reversible, and is a one-skein wonder!
