Journey Shawl is a triangular shawl that combines cables with the lovely colors of variegated yarn to depict the way life leads us on unexpected paths that twist and turn but can lead to something beautiful in the end. Over the past year I have suffered through 2 miscarriages and have experienced many times filled with swirling emotions and others with calm and tranquility. Knitting has helped me endure by giving my hands and mind something to work on and think about that is beautiful instead of the nagging sorrows in the back of my mind. The cable sections are reminiscent of the waves of emotion found in my own life while the stockinette and ripple sections are the calm moments where beauty and peace shine through again.
Charted instructions are included for the shawl and cable pattern (which is an adaptation of a stitch found in Norah Gaughan’s Knitted Cable Sourcebook). Charts C-E are on separate pages due to size. Happy Knitting!

MATERIALS & INFO
Yarn: Rios by Malabrigo Yarn, “Whales Road” 210 yds/100 grams. You’ll need 4 skeins or approx. 820 yards of your favorite worsted weight yarn

Gauge: 4 sts x 6 rows = 1” x 1” in stockinette (not essential to this project)

Needles: US 8 /5 mm 32”-40” circular needle (due to number of stitches)

Notions: tapestry needle (for weaving in ends), cable needle

Finished size: 54” long x 58” wide (at base)
