Journey Home
I visit my family, who live in Karachi, each summer. It’s an opportunity to reconnect with family and friends, eat favorite foods and immerse myself in the culture that’s such a large part of who I am. The rich history of my country is reflected in every design I produce. This year, Destination Yarns created four colorways inspired by different places in Pakistan. I used these colors to design a classic yet modern twist on a “coatigan.” Substantial enough to be a serious statement piece, yet light as a feather for easy seasonal transitions.
This coatigan is knit top-down with an interesting- to-work and lovely lace detail creating the raglan lines and center back panel. After the sleeves are separated, the lace detail continues along the sides to create a faux seam. This garment is an homage to the grace and strength of the women who raised me and the women who surround me.
