Joanie's Shawl
One of the ladies in my knitting group wanted to knit a simple shawl, and after looking at several patterns we decided a basic asymmetric shawl would be the best option. So, I wrote out a pattern for her. Of course, I couldn’t resist adding a bit of embellishment also, so I added a couple of variations.
This shawl can be made with pretty much any weight of yarn, and any size needle, depending on the type of fabric, and size shawl you want to end up with. Different weights/yardage of yarn, and/or different needle sizes will give you a different finished size.
The pictures show the variations of yarn and pattern embellishments that I’ve used for this.
The purple Basic Shawl was done using a single skein (100 gr/400 yds) of Jilly & Kiddles Fancy Sock Yarn in Monkshood and a US size 8 needle. Finished size is 45x49x27.
The green Variation 1 Shawl was done using a single skein (100 gr/480 yds) of Fish Belly Fiber Works (113 gr) light fingering in Lagoon and a U.S. size 7 needle. Finished size is 45x51x32.
And the yellow Variation 2 Shawl was done using 2 skeins (100 gr each for a total of 620 yds) of Araucania Huasco DK Tonals, and a U.S. size 9 needle. Finished size is 45x56x32.
This could be a great stash buster if you have several partial skeins of the same or similar weight of yarn. Just add them in as you go until you get the size you want.
