Jera
Jera is a garter stitch shawl knitted first top down, shaped with short rows that are decorated with yarn over rows and then knitted sideways. It’s a perfect knit to use up those leftovers. Leave the shawl as it is or use all your yarn up and add some tassels or pompoms.
Yarn:
Any fingering weight yarn 366 m/ 400 yds per 100 g. The sample was knitted with four colours of Chester Wool Company’s Merino Single Ply Sock (100% merino, 366 m/100 g). You need 60 g of the main colour A and 30 g of each accent colour.
The yardage is an estimate, the sample shawl used approximately 60 g of yarn A, 30 g of yarn B and C and 25 g of yarn D.
Needles etc:
3.75 mm (US 5) circular needle 100 cm (40”) or longer.
Tapestry needle for weaving in ends.
A crochet hook, size close to the needle size.
Four stitch markers.
Gauge:
22 st x 42 rows (21 garter ridges) = 10 x 10 cm/ 4 x 4” in garter stitch after blocking.
Finished measurements:
After blocking 193 x 33 cm / 76 x 13”.
