It Takes a Guild Cardigan Tutorial
You can use any weight yarn from fingering through bulky. We will learn how to use Ann Budd’s book Knitter’s Handy Book of Top-Down Sweaters. There will be videos on how to use her book. We will learn how to adjust the pattern for size variations. This is an all inclusive tutorial on creating a custom Shawl Collar Cardigan with cables and pockets.

This KAL is a tutorial pattern on how to create a perfect fitting Raglan Shawl Collar Cardigan with Pockets, worked from the top down.
The tutorial will be taught using videos and written materials.
There will be QR codes and video links in the written materials to link you directly with the YouTube support videos.
As you are working through the tutorial pattern, you can communicate with other KAL students in the Ravelry Group - Knitting with Suzanne Bryan.
Along the way we will learn:
How to measure our bodies to find the perfect combination of elements for our sweater. Many people will find that their body measurements may fall into more than one size category. The KAL will include instructions on how to adjust their numbers to make their garment fit perfectly to their body shape.
How to use Ann Budd’s book to create our perfect fitting cardigan.
How to create and use your personal schematic. How to knit, block, and measure a gauge swatch.
How to calculate the amount of yarn needed for the garment.
How to work with hand dyed yarns.
The best cast on for top down cardigans with shawl collars.
How to adjust for cable flare in the first row after the cast on and in the last row before the bind off.
How to add cables of your choice for the sweater back, arms, and fronts.
For adventurous knitters there will be the option to work the cable panels in intarsia, or just the legs of the cables in intarsia.
How to modify the width of the fronts of the cardigan to allow for a wide button band in association with the shawl collar.
How to add optional bust shaping. How to add optional waist shaping.
How to create the most wonderful and comfortable pockets.
How to work ribbing that is perfect. How to bind off in ribbing perfectly.
How to pick up for the arms without having holes at the joins.
How to maintain even tension when changing from knitting flat to knitting in the round.
A variety of buttonholes, so you can use the one that works best for your buttons and fabric.
How to create a shawl collar that spreads across the back and flows smoothly to the front without puckers or extra fabric at the top fronts.
How to pick up stitches perfectly from rows and stitches.
Adventurous knitters will be able to choose from a variety of fabrics for their shawl collar such as: standard ribbing, seed stitch, moss stitch, two color brioche, or double knitting.
How to weave in ends and block your sweater perfectly.
You will end up with a perfectly fitting cardigan.
