The Islander Vest is a cute tie front vest tank that is a perfect staple piece for layering or as a summer top! The vest is knit top down and worked flat for the entirety of the vest. It has a stockinette body with options for bust and waist shaping, and edging details with a section of broken rib and slipped edge stitches. It features a V neckline, and broken rib hem/I-cord bind off. It is a size inclusive design, written in 20 sizes, every 2 inches / 5 cm from 28-66 inches / 70-165 cm finished upper bust, with an easily customizable full bust. It is intended to fit with 2-4 inches / 5-10 cm of positive ease and sit at a cropped length (length can be altered to your preference).

Finished upper bust of:
28(30, 32, 34)(36, 38, 40)(42, 44, 46)(48, 50, 52)(54, 56, 58)(60, 62, 64, 66) inches /
70(75, 80, 85)(90, 95, 100)(105, 110, 115)(120, 125, 130)(135, 140, 145)(150, 155, 160, 165) cm
To fit actual upper bust of:
24-26(26-28, 28-30, 30-32)(32-34, 34-36, 36-38)(38-40, 40-42, 42-44)(44-46, 46-48, 48-50)(50-52, 52-54, 54-56)(56-58, 58-60, 60-62, 62-64) inches /
60-65(65-70, 70-75, 75-80)(80-85, 85-90, 90-95)(95-100, 100-105, 105-110)(110-115, 115-120, 120-125)(125-130, 130-135, 135-140)(140-145, 145-150, 150-155, 155-160) cm
Note: The sizes reflect the FINISHED upper bust measurements in inches / cm of the vest, and listed below you can see the actual recommended upper bust range for each size. The vest is designed for 2-4 inches / 5-10 cm of positive ease. To determine the size you wish to knit, measure your upper bust and add 2-4 inches / 5-10 cm to find the closest size. If you are in between sizes, I recommend sizing down for a better fit around the upper bust. My sample is knit with 2 inches / 5 cm of positive ease at the upper bust (Size 6 on a 36 inch / 90 cm upper bust, 38 inch / 100 cm full bust and 30 inch / 75 cm waist).
For yardage calculations, the estimated full bust of the tank will be ____ inches/cm larger than upper bust (but can be easily adjusted as needed if smaller or larger):
2(2, 2, 2)(2, 2, 4)(4, 4, 4)(4, 4, 4)(4, 4, 4)(4, 6, 6, 6) inches /
5(5, 5, 5)(5, 5, 10)(10, 10, 10)(10, 10, 10)(10, 10, 10)(10, 15, 15, 15) cm
The full bust and waist measurements of this vest tank are quite customizable, so the upper bust is the best number to choose size based off of. Once you join the front and back sections, you can work increases or decreases to fit your full bust, as well as bust darts and waist decreases as needed.
Needles recommended:
3.75 mm / US 5 / UK 9 (or size needed to obtain gauge)
Cord length to match your upper bust measurement
Gauge (blocked):
4 x 4 inch / 10 x 10 cm = 24 sts x 32 rows - working flat in stockinette
Yarn recommended:
Any Fingering (1) weight yarn that you can match gauge with.
Sample yarn - Treehouse Knits Spruce Sock (90% Extra Fine SW Merino Wool, 10% Recycled Nylon, 437 yds / 400 m per 100g) in the colourway All the Stars Aligned.
A great commercial alternative is KnitPicks, their Stroll line is my favourite Fingering base!
Yardage Required:
Estimated yardage:
400(440, 470, 500)(530, 550, 570)(615, 635, 675)(710, 730, 775)(790, 815, 850)(900, 940, 980, 1000)
Additional yardage per inch of body:
25(27, 29, 30)(32, 34, 36)(38, 39, 41)(43, 45, 46)(49, 50, 52)(54, 55, 57, 59)
Estimated meters:
366(402, 430, 457)(485, 503, 521)(562, 581, 617)(649, 668, 709)(722, 745, 777)(823, 860, 896, 914)
Additional meters per inch of body:
23(25, 27, 27)(29, 31, 33)(35, 36, 37)(39, 41, 42)(45, 46, 48)(49, 50, 52, 54)
Note: Yardage is an approximation and is calculated using the recommended measurements (see schematics in photos), plus approximately 5% extra. Allow for extra yardage if choosing to add length or if you have a significant difference in your actual full bust compared to the estimated full bust. Yardage can vary depending on your gauge and knitting, so I always recommend buying extra in case you require more yardage.
