This design began with the central Large Leaf stitch pattern. The all-over pattern for the body and sleeves consists of deconstructed segments of the Large Leaf pattern, with a knot stitch derived from the central stems of the leaf, and the eyelet pattern representing a miniature of the peripheral leaves. When I was finished knitting, the leaf motifs and tonal shades of green reminded me of a costume for “Summer,” in a ballet I had danced in as a teenager, set to Vivaldi’s Seasons and choreographed as a tribute to Isadora Duncan. This became the inspiration for the name of the sweater.
