ABOUT THE PATTERN
Cozy, warm, and squishy, the Intertwined is the perfect winter shawl for when you need a big hug around your neck. The design features two textures that flow in and out of one another and tells the story of friendship. It’s a great pattern for the new brioche knitter.
If you’re not familiar with knitting brioche, the Intertwined Shawl will be a fun challenge through which you’ll be completely supported with clear instructions and video tutorials that walk you through the techniques step by step.
This pattern is for a triangular shawl worked top down. Learn more about the design inspiration, knitting experience, and wearing experience here.
The pattern includes one PDF with both the written instructions and the charted instructions, but the instructions are split so you can print only the pages you’ll need.
SIZE
One Size
Width: 58.5 in / 149 cm
Depth: 30.5 in / 77 cm
YARN
382 yd / 349 m; 174 g Worsted Weight Yarn for CC
463 yd / 423 m; 210 g Worsted Weight Yarn for MC
The sample is worked using Pinon (CC) and Sunshine (MC) in Six and Seven Fiber’s Rocky Mountain Targhee (100% Non-superwash Targhee; 110 yd / 100 m; 50 g) base.
A note on this yarn: the mill measures the yarn by yardage rather than weight. So, you may receive a weight different than 50 or 100 grams (my skeins were each 90 grams instead of 100), but you will always receive 110 or 220 yards.
A note on the MC yarn quantity: Per design standards, all of my yarn quantities include an extra 10% from what I used to ensure you don’t run out of yarn. You can most likely get away with only two 100-gram skeins (or four 50-gram skeins). {I and all of the test knitters used less than 200 grams/440 yards.} If you do run out you can transition from the 2-color brioche to 1-color brioche at the bottom of the shawl early. However, if you’d rather not risk running out of yarn, you may want to purchase an additional skein.
This design was created as a collaboration with Six and Seven Fiber. If you have the means, I highly recommend checking out their colorway options! Find color recommendations and alternate yarn suggestions here.

TECHNIQUES
The techniques used in this pattern include simple 1-color brioche, 2-color brioche, and smocking (with knits, purls, and increases). This is a great project for an advanced beginner who is interested in learning how to knit brioche. If you aren’t familiar with it, brioche is essentially slipped stitches, yarn overs, and knitting or purling stitches together.
The tutorials linked in the pattern include, but aren’t limited to these smocking stitch, one color brioche, and two color brioche videos.
All of my patterns include clear, step-by-step instructions and linked video technique tutorials that walk you through the pattern with confidence. I am also available for pattern support if you have questions.
