Interiority
This pattern is free because K and I want to make the queer joy we experienced in making this pattern together as accessible as possible. While many free patterns are free because they make for good beginner or basic patterns, this pattern is neither. It is rather advanced and rather involved (although, I have made this pattern twice and found it to be fun and straightforward both times… but also it is my own pattern so take my opinion with a grain of salt). I hope that you find it comforting to make and a warm embrace to wear.
Interiority is a compound raglan yoke cardigan worked (near) seamlessly from the bottom-up and knitted flat (there is some quick seaming in the underarm and sewing down the pocket flap if making pockets). The body is constructed using intarsia and a broken rib variation. After working the body, the sleeves are made using striping, and knitted in the round. The sleeves are then joined with the body to construct the compound raglan yoke. The compound raglan, compared to a typical raglan, helps to ensure the yoke sits more comfortably against the shape of the shoulder. Finally, a shawl collar is added in twisted rib. Due to variations in the panels across sizes, instructions for the intarsia are ONLY charted.
Interiority includes 10 sizes with a finished chest circumference of 34” to 70” (86.5 to 178 cm). This pattern also features gender-inclusive sizing. For each of these 10 sizes, two sizes are graded based on shoulder widths, which is one of the primary ways bodies proportionally vary for those with the same chest size.
Choose to make the Narrow Shoulder size if you find that the shoulders on womenswear garments fit you well or the shoulders of menswear garments are too wide. Choose to make the Broad Shoulder size if you find that the shoulders on menswear garments fit or the shoulders on womenswear garments are too narrow. If you are in between, choose the Shoulder sizing that is closest to your body’s cross back width listed in the schematics for the pattern.
Interiority was designed in collaboration with artist (and non-knitter) K Chandler (portfolio here: link). The result is a play in contrasts. There is an immediate color contrast between the intarsia motif and MC of the design but there is a further contract between the Stockinette used in the colorwork and rib variation used as the main stitch pattern in the cardigan. The floating window in the intarsia motif is the only breaking of this contrast and adds a surrealist element to the piece.
This pattern is tech edited but has NOT been test knit.

Finished chest measurement: 34 (38, 42, 46) (50, 54, 58) (62, 66, 70)”/86.5 (96.5, 106.5, 117) (127, 137, 147.5) (157.5, 167.5, 178) cm.
My sample is a Broad Shoulder size 4, with 6” (15 cm) of positive ease through the full chest. The garment is constructed using the full lengths, with the optional waist decreases. Choose a size with 2 to 6” (5 to 15 cm) of positive ease through the full chest.
