Inspiration Tartan
Here is a pattern inspired by the timeless tartan fabrics. Originally in Scotland the different colors of tartans were associated with clans and families. Today, I’m sharing a version here that you can associate with your love for knitting ♥
Also available as a KNITTING KIT HERE including the yarn and the pattern
.
IN ADDITION TO THE PATTERN, YOU WILL NEED THE FOLLOWING MATERIAL TO KNIT THIS YOKE:
YARN : PATRICKNITS DK PURE 238m / 260yds / 90% Merino SW & 10% Silk.
- MC - BLUEBERRY FIELD: 3 (3, 4, 4, 5, 5, 5) skeins.
- CC1 – GILLES BLUES : 1 (1, 1, 1, 1, 2, 2) skein(s).
- CC2 – PHANTOM SHADOW : 1 (1, 1, 1, 1, 2, 2) skein(s).
NEEDLES : Circular needles of 4mm (US#6) – Cable of 80 cm (32’’) & + (or size needed to obtain gauge) and double pointed needles to work the sleeves if needed.
ACCESSORIES
- Stitch holder or waste yarn to put stitches on hold.
- Stitch markers
- Tapestry needle
GAUGE : 24 sts & 30 rows = 10 cm in stockinette st after blocking.
SIZES : A (B, C, D, E, F, G) – Final bust circumference = 88 (91, 98, 105, 116, 127, 134) cm; 35 (36, 39, 41½, 45½, 50, 53) in. Refer to the schematic at the end of the document for more details.
NOTES
This yoke is worked from the top-down with a positif ease of about 2-4 in; 5-10 cm. You can adjust the length of the body and sleeves as needed, keeping in mind that you will also need to adjust the amount of yarn required to complete the sweater. The yoke has a plaid pattern worked in stranded colorwork.
In addition to this pattern, you can read this article on BiscotteYarns.com about knitting stranded colorwork and this one about How to M1 (Make One) in Seamless Yokes. To make the yoke increases, knit the strand between the stitch you have just knit (located on the right needle) and the next stitch (on the left needle). This increase will create a small “hole” that will be decorative and will be an integral part of the colorwork pattern.
