This scarf features an original lace stitch pattern derived from the designer’s own initials and those of her best friend. The positioning of the stitches was based on numbers generated from the initial letters of their first and second names. The scarf starts with a garter tab and stocking stitch, and then grows into the “Initially the Best” lace stitch pattern, finishing with a complementary scalloped border.
Pattern tension: One pattern repeat after blocking measures 1” (2.5cm) high and 2 ¾” (7.5cm)wide.
Finished scarf size: 14” (36cm) deep at centre and 58 ¼” (148cm) wide along curved top edge.
It is not essential to achieve exact pattern tension although it may affect the finished size and yarn yardage requirements if your tension differs greatly from that stated.

Materials
492yds (450m) laceweight yarn
3.5mm (US4) knitting needles
2 stitch markers
Darning needle (for weaving in ends)

You will need to be able to work from charted or written instructions, work common lace stitches
