YARN CHOICE & SUBSTITUTION
The yarn used is a loosely-plied, 2-ply, non superwash BFL yarn. Because it is non-super wash, it does not have the drape that a super wash yarn does, which lends structure to the mittens. I recommend a fairly sturdy yarn for this pattern because mittens are a high-wear item. Choose a yarn that is similar in yardage for the best match.

NOTES
* Construction: This pattern begins at the wrist, increases for the thumb gusset, completes the hand, works the thumb, then the bottom cuff. If you are worried about running out of yarn, you can just work a shorter cuff!

  • Gauge: This pattern deliberately uses a tighter gauge than is typically seen in Tunisian crochet, so the resulting fabric will be denser and help block the wind out. Working at a different gauge will result in mittens that do not fit as intended and will also change the amount of yarn required.

  • Fingerless Gloves: Instructions for modifying these mittens into fingerless gloves can be found in the appropriate sections of the pattern.
