The scrunchie is crocheted directly onto the elastic using double crochet stitches. The stitches are pushed tightly together around the elastic, which creates the gathered effect and allows the scrunchie to stretch well in use. Two further rounds are worked with increases to build the soft frill around the outside.

The pattern uses basic crochet stitches and is suitable for beginners. It is also a good small project for using colour, glitter thread, or leftover yarn. One skein of Infinity Hearts Rose 8/4 is enough for several scrunchies, depending on how many stitches are worked around the elastic.

Design details
Ida’s Scrunchie is defined by its dense first round and full ruffled edge. The more stitches worked around the elastic, the more volume the finished scrunchie will have. The glitter thread adds a subtle shine, making it useful both as a hair tie and as a wrist accessory.
