This pattern is for medium to advanced crocheters. If you have a working knowledge of what the alpine stitch is, then this pattern will be straightforward. If you are new to the alpine stitch, I recommend searching on the internet for videos on how to do this beautiful stitch.
I am not a fussy crocheter, so that means there is no gauge.
Crochet however big you want it to be with any type of yarn you want to use. It will make a great baby blanket or even a cushion, though I would not recommend it for a coaster as it will be unstable due to the fpdc.
My baby blanket measured 35” x 35” and I used 800 yards approximately
