Hummingbird and Flower Bookmark
Once, standing outside my fence, as I paused from trimming my prodigous, sidewalk-shadowing butterfly bush, there was a huge buzzing by my ear. I raised my hand reflexively to keep the thing from my face, but as I turned to look it was not an insect, but a hummingbird. My heart broke and melted, as I’ve never seen one or felt one again.
If made in wool, you may felt this which adds more dimensionality. You might make this as just the bird and wear it as a pin -- it’s cool like that. You could lengthen the flower stem, so the bird and flower could both meet around the book.
I think this would make a lovely and unusual gift, and having written that, I think I’ll make some more for Valentine’s Day, get wells and acquaintance birthdays.
I think it’s a fast crochet -- it takes me about 20 minutes.
You may use any yarn and a corresponding but reduced size hook -- in other words make it like an ami using a smaller gauge hook than that recommended for your yarn e.g. worsted weight and F/3.75, aran and G, fingering and C, etc.
Intermediate/Experienced.
A quick crochet for an interesting, figural gift.
Enjoy!
