Pattern Notes
The hat starts with a cable trim that is knitted back and forth as a long strip. Stitches are picked up along one edge of this strip and the basket weave and rib turn-back is worked back and forth before switching to larger needles and working the same pattern for the body of the hat. The crown is then shaped with decreases before the hat is seamed to finish.
Three sizes are provided in the pattern, but if you wish to make further adjustments, here are some suggestions. To alter the depth, you can simply change how much of the turn-back is turned back! Alternatively, you can add or remove a 12-row section of basket weave pattern in the body of the hat. You will then need to tweak how you work the crown shaping pattern so that the garter stitch and rib sections match up correctly.
To alter the circumference, you can use a larger or smaller needle to change the gauge. Do knit a swatch if you choose this approach and check that you are happy with the knitted fabric.
