Houndstooth is a classic and always in style! It has been around, at least, since the late 1800s. It was originally a Scottish woven pattern (though the oldest fabric with this motif was found in Sweden!), but modern haute couture has taken it to grand and varied places. This pattern uses a small houndstooth print that is often called “puppytooth”.

This is a pattern for a houndstooth hat, worked in the round, using the stranded technique. Size can be easily changed through yarn weight and needles size.

A little note about gauge- The original ‘houndstooth hat’ was worked at a tight gauge with Baby Alpaca Aire is. This yarn is, indeed, full of air and can be easily compressed.
The updated version of ‘houndstooth hat’ was worked with WYS DK weight, a more standard DK yarn. (info listed above)
