This pattern is exclusive to the Cookie A Sock Club until December 1, 2016.

The Horatio Herbert socks are fairly straightforward to knit, with simple stripes, increases and decreases, but their construction is unusual, sort of like a sideways sock. The main body of the leg and foot is knitted at in one piece using a provisional cast-on. This is grafted to form tubes for the leg and foot with a hole for the heel and toe. Stitches are picked up for the heel which is worked in the round with decreases and grafted at the end just like a standard toe. Stitches are similarly picked up at the bottom and worked like a standard toe, again with our favorite grafting technique: the Kitchener stitch. Stitches are also picked up at the top edge for a very short rolled cuff.

There are two sets of sizes that can be combined for this pattern: Width Size and Length Size. Depending on which section is being worked, either Width Size or Length Size will come into play. This is noted at the beginning of each section.

If unsure about which Length Size to use, go with the smaller size. It is always possible to work extra plain rounds in the toe if needed.
