Homeward Bound Migration shawl
Homeward Bound Migration commemorates my growing family’s migration home to Winnipeg after living in Kitchener, ON for eight years. The design is dedicated to all the amazing knitters I met in Kitchener-Waterloo, particularly my delightful friends of the Uptown Knit Mob. They transformed my life as a knitter (designer, and new spinner) while providing a wonderful, supportive community.
The shawl is worked starting from the center of a lace border. Each lace side is worked outwards from a provisional cast-on, then the textured body is picked up and shaped into a 3/4 circle with staggered decreases. I have written this pattern with the intention of highlighting the use of handpainted yarns (those beauties that too often linger in our stash) paired with a solid colour lace. The body will also look beautiful with striping, gradient, or semi-solid yarns. I look forward to seeing more, creative examples.
Yarn Requirements -
Yarn A) 370m / 400yds of solid or subtle semi-solid coloured fingering weight yarn for lace.
Yarn B) 370m / 400yds of multi-coloured or semi-solid fingering weight yarn for garter/textured body.
Yarn C) 80m / 87yds Coordinating stripe colours for textured body. This is a great use for favourite leftovers. Yarn C does not need to be one colour or from the same skein.
