Home from the Sea
♫ Music ♫
Home from the Sea is a modern-day ballad that tells the story of the brave souls who risk going out in raging storms to save stranded sailors. We all walk different paths in life and knitted cables are the perfect reflection of the meandering roads we traverse.
The Home from the Sea wrap is a celebration of favourite cables - undulating nested cables join Saxon braids in this very Celtic piece.
Edges are worked in combination of garter stitch and Cross-Over Edge Stitch columns (Fig. 1). Let this generous shawl wrap you in warmth and comfort.
This wrap is knit flat on a circular needle. Cables are worked on the right side of the work only but watch for the tiny areas of garter stitch inside some of the cables. Knitters must be able to ‘read their knitting’ i.e., identify knit and purl stitches to bind off ‘in pattern’.
Two full sets of directions are included:
- One set of directions for chart users on pages 3 – 10 (Note: page 10 contains the full chart while pages 5 – 9 contain portions of the full chart in larger format that can be printed and taped together, if desired) and
- One set of directions for knitters who prefer full written directions on pages 11 – 14.
Yardage given is for the stated size; however, this wrap can easily be made longer by working extra repeats - more yardage will be required, of course. The original size wrap can also be turned into a shrug – details provided in the Finishing section).
Notions
Cable needle, large-eyed needle for weaving in ends.
