A wide band of honeycomb sweeps across the Hive Mentality Shawl, framed with garter stitch stripes and delicate pops of slipped stitches. A section of meditative garter rib at the beginning of the shawl transitions seamless into the garter stripes.

Hive Mentality is perfect for two coordinating colors of yarn. Consider using a variegated yarn as the first color while keeping the second color as a solid or semi-solid to show off the honeycomb stitch patterning.

This asymmetrical shawl is worked on the bias from one tip to the opposite edge, making it possible to use up all of one’s yarn. Only one color is used at a time in the garter stitch rows.

Gauge is not critical for this pattern, but using a different yarn weight or needle size will affect the size of the finished shawl.

This pattern is easy to resize by adding or subtracting repeats of Garter Rib in the first color. Knitters may also experiment with using a lighter or heavier yarn weight and corresponding needles. Please note that changing the yarn or the size of the shawl will affect the amount of yarn needed.

Instructions are both written and charted.
