When I started this design, I was looking for something that could be interpreted for both men and women—two pairs of socks that would be related in some way, yet reflect the differences in what men and women are looking for in a sock pattern. As the cable evolved and I discovered the possibility for a plain of stockinette in the larger section, the idea of a little embroidery came to me. The embroidery is completely optional, here I’ve shown some simple duplicate stitch monograms.
