This cosy cowl is knitted in super chunky yarn – super easy to knit and super easy to wear!

I designed it with Hetty, who had only just started knitting and wanted to give circular needles a go. She loved the double moss stitch pattern, and I thought it would be perfect for something simple, quick and satisfying.

The result was a design she could pick up and relax with after school – and before long she was knitting a few more as Christmas presents for her friends. They’re wonderfully addictive, take just two hanks, and best of all – no sewing up!

CONSTRUCTION
Knitted in the round in one piece.

TECHNIQUES USED
Knitting in the round, cast on, knit, purl, cast off.

YARN
Two 100g balls of Superchunky weight yarn.
Or you can use two strands of aran weight yarn held together.

METRES
210m.

SUGGESTED KNITTING NEEDLES
10mm circular needles (40cm length).

GAUGE (tension)
8 stitches and 16 rows to 10cm square over double moss stitch. I obtained this gauge with 10mm needles.
It is important to obtain gauge so do swatch and change your needle size to achieve the correct gauge if you need to.
