While the rest of the Weasley family prepares for Bill and Fleur’s wedding in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1, Hermione packs all the supplies and necessities that she, Ron, and Harry will need for their hunt for the Horcruxes in her beaded drawstring bag. Enhanced with an Undetectable Extension Charm, this bag is a key artifact in the last two films, and Hermione is rarely seen without it.

Beginning with the bead and base of the bag, this beautiful prop replica is knit from the bottom up, and the construction is as interesting as anything Hermione pulls out of it! Beaded column and wedge sections are started with a provisional cast on and made perpendicular to the base with wrap-and-turn short rows. Joined as you go, they are then connected together at the end seamlessly with Kitchener stitch. Stitches along the outer edge are then picked up and knit to make a tube for the drawstring. Topped with an I-cord bind off and a bottom tassel, an optional satin lining is sewn in for added structure and elegance.
