Hematite is a summertime sock you’ll want to knit any time of the year: lightweight, interesting, and easy to keep your place; a dream for travel knitting or a day at the beach.

They’re toe-up ankle socks with short-row toes and heels, lace panel detailing, plus short-row ankle shaping to help keep the sock heels from sliding down, and a ribbed border that lines up neatly with the lace panel. Charted and written instructions are included for the pattern stitch.

Yarn: Any smooth sock weight yarn. Shown in Regia 4-Fadig Color (color “4390”). Total yardage will depend on length of socks. Depending on length, you should be able to make at least up to the 46Sts (8in/20.3cm) size with a 50g. ball of sock yarn.
Gauge: Stockinette gauge: 7sts/in (28sts/4in, 28sts/10cm).
Pattern stitch gauge: 4.5 sts/in (18 sts/4in, 18 sts/10cm).
Needles: DPNs in size needed to obtain gauge. I used US 1 /2.25mm. Includes tips to adapt the pattern to circulars, magic loop, or 2 at a time methods.
Notions: 2 stitch markers.
Sizes: 10 sizes (by circumference), any length: Choose a size with between 1in/2.5cm - 1.5in/3.8cm of negative ease, as the lace pattern will stretch significantly on the foot.
