Heladas Hat
With Fall comes the frost, chilly evenings, and football games – plus the need for a warm hat. Heladas Hat is knit with two colors, making it more cozy, but it isn’t knit using traditional fair isle or intarsia. The contrasting color is worked every five stitches and carried in front. Two rows later, that float is lifted over a worked stitch, making an inverted “v”. By offsetting v’s, a pattern that looks like frost on a window is created. Plus, it’s a fun stitch to make! The instructions may sound weird to read, but when you do it, they make complete sense. The frosted brim is bordered by rows of garter stitch and a slipped stitch pinstripe keeps the main body and crown interesting. Omit the pinstripes for an easier knit.
The pattern specifies 2 balls of the MC. I was able to squeak by with just one ball for the medium size, but I didn’t have much left. Buy that second ball unless you like to live on the edge.
