There is nothing more enchanting than a big cozy owl hug. What? You’ve never had an owl hug? Well, brace yourself. It looks like Hedwig is swooping in to give you one right now!
Sizes: One size
Finished measurements: 79 inches x 20 inches measured flat (at longest points not including feathers.)
Yarns used: Fuzzy, worsted weight yarn such as:
Knit Picks, Reverie, 50 g - 137 yds - 125 m, 80% Alpaca/ 20% Acrylic.
MC: Natural, Color number 26113 (cream.) 6 balls.
CC1: Hawk, Color number 26111 (grey.) 2 balls.
CC2 a few yards of worsted weight yellow yarn (eyes.)
Tension/gauge: Use needles necessary to get gauge.
Work 16 sts and 19 rows to measure 4x4” in St st using
US 8 or 5 mm needles with MC.
Notions:
A pair of US 8 (5 mm) circular needles 29” or 36” long
A set of US 8 (5 mm) dpns (for making feathers)
stitch markers, tapestry needle, crochet hook for fringe.
Tiny owl stitch dictionary: (stitches used in pattern)
CC 1, CC2: contrasting color 1, contrasting color 2
CO: cast on
dpns: double pointed needles
k: knit.
k2tog: knit the next two stitches together.
kfb: knit into front and back of the next stitch.
MC: main color
(RS): right side
ssk: slip next 2 sts knitwise onto your right needle, insert left needle purlwise into the front of the sts and knit them tog.
St st: stockinette stitch. When working flat, k 1 row, p 1 row.

(WS): wrong side
yo: yarn over - bring yarn between needles to the front, take yarn back over right needle. Creates one stitch.
Pattern notes:
Hedwig is knitted flat in one piece starting at the bottom (where the tail is,) and working back in forth in St st rows up to the top. As you go, you will work 3 charts & change colors (using stranded intarsia) where noted. Eyes and beak are added afterwards using duplicate stitch. Finally, alternating feathers and fringe are added to the bottom of the shawl.
