If I can stop one heart from breaking, I shall not live in vain; If I can ease one life the aching, Or cool one pain, Or help one fainting robin unto his nest again, I shall not live in vain. ~ Emily Dickinson

Sometimes life gets rough and you need a break. A nice, squishy, comfy, merino break. This is the perfect comfort pattern to give you a little rest when life gets hectic. It’s a quick, but very satisfying, make, and who can resist all the fringe?
(if it happens that YOU can resist all the fringe, there’s also a tutorial for a pom pom border).

This pattern looks nice in all dye styles of yarn, but was specifically created to accentuate the lovely colors of Sugarplum Circus’ variegated yarns.

This pattern includes notes so you can make the cowl larger or smaller, or even work it in ANY weight of yarn! (yardage requirements may vary if you choose a different yarn weight)

This is an advanced beginner level pattern. Skill needed include:

  • Double Crochet
  • Magic Ring (link to tutorial included)
  • Treble Crochet
  • Crocheting Flat
  • Crocheting in the round
  • (optional) Adding fringe (photo tutorial included)
  • (optional) Pom pom border (photo tutorial included)

This pattern has been thoroughly tech edited and tested.

Some testers found that the needed to drop down a hook size or two (0.5-1.5mm) for the “raise the neck” portion of this pattern. If you try it with the hook you used to achieve gauge and the neck raise ruffles or flares out, try it with a hook size or two smaller. All testers were about to achieve a good neckline that they were happy to wear with this method, but the original sample did not switch hook sizes at all.
