Doubly thick, warmer and more durable than single-color knitting, the two-color design is handknit using two strands of yarn at a time.

The double layers of wool/acrylic blend yarn produce a hat that will insulate your head and ears much more effectively than a single layer.

The skill level is suited to an advanced beginner familiar with a long tail cast- on, working in the round, knitting, purling and decreasing.

The pattern includes instructions for knitting the Hearts Bun Hat in both childrens’ and adult womens’ sizes.

Yarn: Lion Brand Wool Ease Thick and Quick, or any bulky yarn with the following gauge:

Gauge: 10.5 sts/ 16 rnds = 4” (10cm) in pattern stitch, on larger needles. Note: it’s always a good idea to knit a gauge swatch.

Needles: U.S. 11 and 13 in 16” circular needle.

I used 114 Denim or 112 Raspberry for the Main Color and 099 Fisherman for the Contrasting Color.

Finished Measurements: Size Small (Ages 6 to 10 years): 16” (41 cm) circumference, unstretched. 7.5” (19 cm) height with a bun hole 4” (10 cm) in diameter.

Size Medium (Age 10 years to Average Adult Woman) 17” (43 cm) circumference, unstretched. 7.5” (19 cm) height with a bun hole 4.5” (11 cm) in diameter.

Size Large (Large Adult Woman) 18.5” (47 cm) circumference, unstretched. 8.25” (21 cm) height with a bun hole 4.5” (11 cm) in diameter.
