The Uncle Cardigan…
From my “Earth Wool & Fire” collection -- “Hay Creek” takes its name from a farm in Minnesota. This particular farm happens to be run by one of the most talented and big hearted potters the world has ever known. His property boasts a variety of art studios, work spaces and kilns, and every summer he invites all his friends to spend a few days working and making together. “Uncle Mel” as I like to call him, is the human embodiment of warmth, joy and comfort. I created “Hay Creek” in an effort to capture just a little bit of those qualities in my ideal “Uncle Cardigan” – knit up in delicious aran weight Donegal yarn, the garter stitch body of this top-down, raglan cardigan is squishy and cozy and easy to wear. An easy knit, and great for beginners, this pattern highlights the simple beauty of the classic garter stitch. Always practical, just like dear old Uncle Mel, the “Hay Creek also boasts a pair of handy pockets and a fun (optional) contrasting pocket lining…cause like your favorite uncle, it’s just a little bit cheeky too!

Yarn:
1000, (1050, 1100, 1150, 1200, 1250, 1350, 1475) yards of heavy worsted/aran weight yarn for main color and 100-125 yards of contrasting colored yarn for pockets (optional). Sample shown in “Soft Donegal” by Studio Donegal in “Olive” and “Yellow”

US size 7, 23” circular needle or size needed to obtain gauge
US size 7 dpns or long circular needle for sleeves
