I designed this hat for my Fair Isle Fundamentals classes to teach jogless stripes and demonstrate color value combinations. Four colors of worsted weight yarn are required; one light, one dark, and two of medium value.

Each of 4 colors is paired with every other color so the hat is essentially a useful color swatch. Colors with enough variation between their values (regardless of hue) stand out nicely while colors close in value blend.

All floats are fewer than 4 stitches long, therefore “catching” or “weaving” floats isn’t necessary. This is a great pattern for knitters new to stranded knitting.

The pattern is also designed to give knitters practice in Fair Isle pattern substitution as the 6 peerie patterns aren’t designated -- but idea sources are offered. I encourage people to exercise their right brain and give designing their own a go. We all like to change patterns anyway, right?

(This pattern is only available through my Fair Isle Fundamentals Class)
