Inspiration: Visiting a working fishing beach like the one in Hastings is a feast for the eyes with a jarring mix of manmade detritus and natural washed-up flotsam and jetsam. An organised chaos of nets, piles of plastic containers, banks of stacked up lobster traps, I am struck by the pleasing-to-the-eye repetition of materials. Using a basic two-colour stranded, North Sea inspired pattern repeated in bands across the body and sleeves, the flat surface is interrupted by the colour change adding visual textural interest. Knitted in supremely soft British Blue Wool, this is a modern take on a traditional Gansey.

Construction: An oversized drop shoulder sweater inspired by a traditional gansey shape using bands of two-colour Fair Isle patterns. Garter stitch cuffs, collar and hem with a small side vent.
Worked in a repeating stranded Fair Isle pattern in three bands
of colours on the front and back and two bands of colours on
the sleeves.
