Harrington Hat & Mitts
Inspired by Polly Harrington, the knitter who was my teacher and mentor for over ten years, this pattern was originally designed for a charity knitting event. I wanted something that would be accessible to most skill levels, preferences (flat or in the round), and sizes.
The hat and mitts are pretty stretchy thanks to the ribbing, but should feel slightly snug on the head and hands. The Valley Yarns Superwash yarns are soft and squishy, but hold up very well over time. If you’re looking for substitutes, I recommend MadelineTosh Vintage, Malabrigo Rios or Brown Sheep Lamb’s Pride Worsted by Brown Sheep for the worsted weight; and Malabrigo Mecha, Berroco Ultra Alpaca Chunky or Brown Sheep Lamb’s Pride Bulky for the bulky weight. That said, this pattern is extremely versatile and there are tons of great yarns out there to play with!!
There’s still time for holiday knitting! This pattern will be free from 12/16/18 - 12/18/18 - Happy Holidays!!
