Generously sized cardigan 27 inches from shoulder to lower edge featuring repeating diamond and square patterning worked in intarsia. The original version includes two small pockets which might benefit from enlarging or can easily be omitted.

The published version is worked in mercerised cotton and chenille yarns giving a crisp, vibrant fabric. However, alternative 4ply yarns can easily be substituted although care is needed to check gauge/sizing with the actual widths approximating 31.25, 36.5 or 41.5 inches

The original suggests 13 X 50g coloured yarns plus a further 150g for welt, front bands and cuff. 9 buttons are required for the front fastening. The repeating pattern is charted showing the placement of colours and can easily be edited to suit personal requirements.

This cardigan is a reasonably challenging project and calls for a degree of patience weaving in or sewing in yarn tails. Whilst no more than four colours might be required in any one row lots of lengths are required to work the repeating pattern. The lengths are reasonably short (around 5 wraps of a hand) and can be left to hang free. Bobbins are unnecessary.

It is a cardigan very much of its era - bold and eye catching.
