Harewood is inspired by memories, recent and from childhood, of visiting stately homes around England. I have always admired the complex and ornate patterns found on wall hangings, rugs, wallpaper and upholstery in such houses, which often feature patterns inspired by nature alongside intricate fleur-de-lis motifs. The colourwork seen here is my interpretation of such designs. The Inlay Knitting detail, which features around the neckband, waistband and cuffs, is inspired by the decorative beading that edges this style of upholstered furniture.
Harewood is named after Harewood House, a stately home in Yorkshire I visited frequently as a child.

CONSTRUCTION
This garment is worked top-down, in the round. After the neckband, short row shaping is incorporated to optimise fit. The majority of the yoke features a stranded colourwork pattern. Once the yoke is completed, stitches are separated into body and sleeves, which are each worked separately and in the round. Body and sleeves are worked in stockinette, finished with half-twisted ribbing at the waistband and cuffs. An additional section of colourwork is worked above the waistband and cuffs.

SIZING GUIDE
This garment is graded into sizes 1 (2, 3, 4, 5) (6, 7, 8, 9, 10). Recommended positive ease is 2+” / 5+ cm at the chest circumference.

SAMPLE
The wearer is 5’10” / 178 cm with a 37” / 92.5 cm chest circumference. The sample has been worked in size 4, giving the wearer 8.25” / 20.5 cm of positive ease at the chest. The body has been worked to standard length, with 14 sts decreased down the sides of the body to taper the waist. To accommodate the height of the wearer, an extra 2” / 5 cm of length has been added to the sleeve length. The looser sleeve cuff option has been worked, with decreases added before the cuff to take the final cuff circumference to 8.5” / 21.5 cm.

GAUGE
Using 3.25 mm / US size 3 needles, or needle size required to meet gauge, 26 stitches over 32 rounds in both stockinette stitch and colourwork, wet blocked, creates a 4x4” / 10x10 cm square.
Neckband, waistband and cuff circumferences assume you are working 7 sts per 1” / 2.5 cm.

YARN
The sample has been worked using Spincycle yarns.
The Main Colour is Spincycle’s Wilder sportweight base (100% Non-Superwashed American Rambouillet Wool; 183 m / 200 yds per skein (weight of skeins vary)) in the colourway Dark Grey.

The Contrast Colour is Spincycle’s Dyed in the Wool sportweight base (100% Superwashed American Wool; 183 m / 200 yds per skein (weight of skeins vary)) in colourway Cold Comfort.

A sport or fingering weight yarn could be substituted for this design (~300-400 m / 328-438 yds per 100 g).
