Hanok Cowl
Why are your patterns no longer on Ravelry?:
In June 2020, Ravelry announced a redesign of their new website. While the aesthetics of the site could be debated, the new site triggered hundreds of migraines in migraine sufferers, and at least eight confirmed seizures in users. In response, Ravelry has shut down the “Accessibility” thread in their “For the Love of Ravelry” forum, silencing their neurodiverse user base. Furthermore, their statement of clarification made it clear that they do not (at the moment) intend for their site to be inclusive to those needs.
As a frequent migraine sufferer myself (although my migraines were not personally triggered by the site’s redesign), I cannot in good conscience direct my followers to a harmful and potentially dangerous website. Consequently, I have removed the files from my Ravelry pattern pages, with users instead being asked to redirect to my website — a website that was designed with those various needs in mind (thanks to the help I received from friends who are UI/UX developers and usability advocates).
The Hanok Cowl is a lightweight accessory inspired by the traditional “Hanok” (한옥) homes of fourteenth century Korea. Simple slipped stitches create a geometric mosaic pattern, perfect for any beginner to mosaic knitting, evoking timber beams and hanji windowpanes.
Just like hanok architecture, this cowl is suited to a variety of different climates, being lightweight enough to wear on its own in Spring, or as a perfect layering piece for Winter. Cast on with La Bien Aimée’s luscious Cashmerino base and allow the rhythm of the slipped stitches to lull you into a state of flow, drifting back in time and space to perch in the shade of the veranda, listening to the sound of chirping cicadas as you sip a refreshing cup of nokcha.
While the pattern is written for one size, you may easily adjust it by casting on any multiple of 16 stitches. But following this pattern exactly will produce a cowl that blocks out to approximately 11.5 inches across when lying flat.
DETAILS
Sizes: One size, but size may be easily adjusted by casting on any multiple of 16 stitches.
Yarn: 2 colors of fingering weight yarn.
Recommended Yarn: La Bien Aimée’s Cashmerino base.
Sample is knit in the colorways Clay and Ghost.
Needles: Circular needles in US 1.5 (2.5mm).
Gauge: Gauge is not critical, but should approximate to 38 stitches and 50 rows after blocking for 4 inches squared in mosaic pattern.

SUPPORT FOR THE DESIGNER
Designing is a fulfilling hobby for me, so I will not be charging for my patterns at this moment in time. However, if you would like to tip me, please feel free to do so at my Ko-fi page. Ko-fi’s are never expected but always appreciated.
