There’s a subtle difference between left and right, in the central knit-over-purl twist. These sorts of details amuse me, but it’s not critical so you could work the two the same. To keep attention focused on the main cable, the thumb is worked plain.
The yarn used here is fantastic for mittens: beautifully soft, but tightly spun enough that it’s not going to be a pilly mess. And the yak fiber adds delicious warmth.
I adore an apparently complicated all-over cable pattern like this one. It’s fun to knit, but not so challenging that you won’t be able to look up from the charts. The repeat allows sneaky resizing of the hand, too.
