Hamako means child of the beach.
Everything about the ocean is worked into the pattern.
It evokes the rolling of the waves,
the ocean spray,
dimpled patterns in the sand,
the way your hair curls up into tendrils of “beach hair”.
(What! Your hair doesn’t curl up at the beach, hmmm, well your friend’s hair then!)
As any child of the beach knows you may live your life away from the shore,
but your heart is always at the ocean.
We surround ourselves of little reminders of
the place we long to return.
This blanket has no cables!
To make it you should know how to work a yo and ssk/k2tog decreases.
It would be helpful to know how to read a chart so that you can see the pattern, but it if you don’t no worries there are written instructions.
The pattern comes in 5 sizes from a one skein “lovey” size right up to a large throw for winter snuggling up with a good book or movie!
Baby Blanket Sizes:
Lovey 19 x 22” (48 x 56 cm) 2 x 4 repeats 2 skeins
Small 27 x 22” (69 x 56 cm) 3 x 4 repeats 2 skeins
Medium 27 x 32” (69 x 81cm) 3 x 6 repeats 3skeins
Large 34 x 37” (86 x 94 cm) 4 x 7 repeats 5 skeins
Throw Sizes:
Medium 34 x 53” (86 x 135 cm) 4x 10 repeats 7 skeins
Large 42 x 53” (107x 135 cm) 5 x 10 repeats 8 skeins
PS While you are knitting if you hold it up to your ear you can hear the waves crash :-)
Included with the pattern is a large print version of the written instructions and the chart. It comes with the pattern but is in a separate file, so check it out!
