Hachi Sweater
Overview
The Hachi Sweater is a classic Aran-style cable sweater featuring a distinctive honeycomb cable pattern. Hachi (ハチ/蜂) means “bee” in Japanese, representing the honeycomb motif. The word Hachi (はち/八) also means “eight”, and since the honeycomb cables resemble the shape of the number 8, the sweater was named Hachi.
This design is worked top-down with a drop shoulder construction, combining both flat and in-the-round knitting. It begins with the back yoke shaped using short rows, followed by the front sections, which are picked up along the shoulders and worked flat. The body is then joined and continued in the round from the underarm downward.
