Traditional knitting motifs borrowed from the Isle of Guernsey run across this generously sized triangle shawl. Knitters in Guernsey decorated close-fitting fishermen’s sweaters (known as ganseys or jerseys) with similar knit and purl motifs.

The shawl is knitted top down in rows. Knitters can choose to work the motifs from charts or written instructions.

6 skeins of worsted weight yarn with a yardage of approximately 182 m (200 yds) per 100 g
Used in the sample: Brown Sheep Company Lamb’s Pride Superwash Worsted (100% wool): #SW60 sandy beach, 6 balls.
5 mm / US size 8 circular needle, approximately 100 cm (40”) long to accommodate the large number of stitches
Markers; darning needle.
