Green Gable
This pattern is no longer available on Ravelry. It can be purchased from Payhip.
March 2015: Thanks to choudoir this pattern is now also available in a cuff down version.
A simple but effective slip-stitch pattern gives a striking mock cable effect (without the hassle). The pattern is easy to memorize and results in a subtly textured fabric which is suitable for either gender - no lace here! Additional texture comes from the Eye of Partridge heel flap - beautiful and practical.
The pattern is written for the magic loop technique of circular knitting but could be easily adapted for other methods.
In case you were wondering: Green Gable is a beautiful mountain in England’s Lake District. Situated in the Wasdale valley, it is often overlooked by walkers in favour of the larger, craggier neighbouring mountains, but the walk to the summit is a rewarding one and the views (weather permitting) are even more so.
NB. After the gusset increases the pattern should state, work across N1 in pattern, ending ready to start heel flap on N2.
Errata: On the cuff down version there is a typo in the set up instructions for the ribbing. The final instruction for both N1 and N2 should read (p1, k1 tbl) 0, (1) time.
