Skill level: Advanced Beginner

Knit a cozy hat using traditional Greek Key designs! This hat was designed in anticipation and celebration of my “Big Fat Greek Crafty Tour” to Athens with PeaceTree Fiber Adventures, September 2024. While we’re in Greece, we’ll be touring pottery studios, taking weaving and mosaic workshops, and MUCH more!

The Greek Key is a traditional Greek design, often called the “meander” that represents infinity and the undulating flow of life. The hat uses two colors of worsted weight yarn and the beautiful geometric designs are worked in simple-to-execute Mosaic Knitting. Mosaic knitting is worked with one color at a time and utilizes slipped stitches to create colorwork patterns. The design works perfectly with mosaic knitting, as Greek Keys are linear patterns.

Construction Details:
The Greek Key Mosaic Hat is worked in the round using a simple Mosaic Pattern. The crown is shaped with decreases and requires small circumference knitting (double pointed needles or magic loop, etc). The pattern is written and charted.

Skills Required:
Cast on/bind off
Joining in the round
Knit/purl
Slipping stitches
Decreasing
Working small circumference knitting at the crown of the hat
Weaving in ends
