This is a pattern for a true alpine cabled shawl (as opposed to Aran cabling, which is the more familiar way of cabling). The knit stitches are knit primarily through the back loop, and although the shawl s not reversible, it is cabled on both sides. The combination of the Alpine cables makes for an usual and beautiful shawl.
This is one of my most sophisticated looking shawls, classy, while still being able to go from night to day and keep you warm.
Skill Level: Intermediate (assuming a good working knowledge of knitting, purling and a good knowledge of cabling) The RS and WS cables are spelled out in the abbreviations, so if you love cables, this won’t be a problem for you.
The pattern is charted only. There are also instructions for an optional crocheted border, should you like one .This is the ONLY crochet in the pattern, the optional edging.
The shawl was expertly test knitted by Debby Rennert, who can be reached at: Medebby1@gmail.com
The sample was knit using Eden yarn from Handmaiden’s Yarn of Canada. The yarn is undyed and requires approximately 1250 yards to make the shawl that is shown in the pictures, which is 22 inches X 74 inches, but is easily adjustable, both by width and length.
The pattern is for sale here on Ravelry and in my Etsy Shop in the Shawls/Stoles/Scarves section (https://www.etsy.com/shop/WearableArtEmporium?section_id=…)
