Graupel (which means soft hail) is a bandana cowl knit in a beautiful colorway called Twister. It begins with a tab cast on, then works to a specific number of rows in stockinette along with creating fun and easy knots in specific areas, known as planned or assigned pooling. (Both terms apply to this yarn).

Once the body of the cowl is completed, it’s joined in the round to work the garter stitch collar.

OPTIONAL: The back of the collar is folded over and secured with a button (non-functional), this helps keep the entire collar folded over and decreases the amount of bulk at the back neck. See photos.

This yarn has a fabulous drape and beautiful stitch definition. If you haven’t used it before, I highly recommend you do so!

Tips for Placement of Knots
• Only work knots on the RS when main color of yarn changes to smaller section of contrast color.
• At the beginning of a RS row, start a knot no sooner than the 2nd st after the yarnover. Otherwise, it will make the edge uneven.
• There will be sections that do not allow enough yarn to create a full knot, knit those sts.
• Do not make knots on the wrong side, purl all sts.
