I’ve lived in some truly wonderful places over the last couple years. One of my many homes will always be a little caravan by the lake just up the road from Granite Bay on Quadra Island. I spent six months there with some of the most wonderful people I’ve met. When I finally decided to leave I knit a version of this shawl for one of them, Emily, inspired by the world around that place: the trees, the water, and the granite.

Granite Bay is worked as a standard top-down triangle starting with a garter tab and then continuing with written or charted instructions for the lace body and textured edging.

Finished Dimensions:
72” (183cm) wingspan, 36” (91.5cm) spine

Materials:
Yarn: 2 skeins of Moeke Heritage
(267 yds (245 m), 70g, 100% wool). Sample shown in “Industrial”. Or 534 yds (489 m) of similar fingering/sport weight yarn. Note: The finished weight of the sample is 135g. Be careful when choosing your skeins of Moeke Heritage to make sure they are the right weight. Skeins vary in grams so it’s best to choose 80g skeins if possible to make sure you have enough for the shawl with any variance in gauge that may occur.

Needles: 4 mm (US 6) circular, at least 32” (80cm) long, or size required to obtain gauge.

Gauge:
14 sts and 40 rows = 4” (10cm) in garter stitch, after blocking.

Difficulty:
Advanced beginner - intermediate.
