“The principle of the Gothic architecture is infinity made imaginable”

Designed in Australia by Mel Harrison.
Materials needed:
Approximately 45gm, 150m of heavy
4ply fingering yarn depending on the desired length and width. Example used Mahogany Turtle hand dyed 4ply merino in Patina.
Stitch marker (optional)
Wool/darning needle.
Foam mat and blocking pins.
Hook Size: 4mm
You want a nice snugness to your neck warmer but also needs to pop over your head. I found a size 4mm hook worked best for 4ply but you can also try a 4mm hook for the chain and a 3.5mm for the stitches if you would like a more collar style fit.
Gauge Swatch: The Gothic Gates scarf does not require a gauge swatch. My recommendation is to check the starting chain fits over your head. In the examples shown I use a heavy 4ply fingering merino yarn and a size 4mm hook. My unstretched starting chain measures 57cm . After some heavy steam blocking the finished neck warmer measures measures 29wx20h in cm. If the chain does not fit comfortably over your head you can go up a hook size, or add an extra 11 chains and work one extra pattern repeat per round.
Fit: The Gothic Gates scarf is a close fitting neck warmer style scarf. It is designed to be popped over the neck, snugly, . You may like to measure the length of the chain around your neck and decide if it is the right length for you. If you would like a longer scarf the pattern can be made larger by adding extra sets of 11 stitches to the original chains and repeating the pattern sets an equal amount of extra times. Please note more yarn will be needed. If making a longer version you may like to add the points to each side. To achieve this complete a round 7 and 8 before finishing off the upper half
