I grew up in New York City, and spent so much time walking down Manhattan streets, stopping at the corner lights and looking up at the skyscrapers as I waited to cross, seeing the columns of windows stretching up, up, up what seemed like miles into the air. I have a vivid memory of riding down 5th Avenue in a taxi with my father when I was a kid, and seeing the sunset reflected in the windows of one soaring building, seeing the gradient of light reflected up towards the sky as the sun set. This scarf if my attempt to recreate that memory I can still see in my mind’s eye.

Whether you use a gradient, a rainbow of different colors (a great way to use up leftovers), or even just 2 colors for a more dramatic contrast, this scarf creates a long column of windows shining some color into your winter, and it’s easy to knit as you only work with 1 color at a time.
