When the calendar hits September, my mind starts prepping for fall. It means crunching through leaves with my Corgi, trips to pumpkin patches, eating my weight in apple donuts or pumpkin bars, sipping on chaider--a mix of apple cider and chai tea--my favorite beverage from my college days and hauling out my winter jacket, hats, gloves and mittens. However, in Minnesota summer still likes to occasionally drop by to say “hello.”

The Golden Fall Cowl is inspired by the plants showing off their autumn hues around my neighborhood. Featuring slipped stitches and lace, it is a great addition to any wardrobe. Using 3 ply sport weight yarn makes it perfect for layering on chilly mornings and evenings, but small enough to tuck into a bag or pocket if it gets too warm. The cowl is also narrow enough to be looped twice and still be worn comfortably on people with shorter necks.

All of the plants that inspired this cowl are key food sources for pollinators in the fall. The COVID-19 pandemic has severely impacted beekeeping and production of of quality goods. A portion of the total profits earned will be donated to the Minneapolis Institute of Art to support the rooftop hives and the University of Minnesota’s Bee Squad that help to maintain the hives. • 3 ply sport weight yarn; total amount used: 450 yds/411 m
• Main Color: 300 yds/274 m
• Contrasting Color: 150 yds/137 m

Needles & Notions:

• US 6/4 mm 24”/60 cm circular, or size to get gauge
• Ring stitch marker
• Darning needle
• Spare yarn for lifelines (optional)

Skill level: Easy. Pattern has written & charted instructions with video link tutorial for 2 strand cast on.
